Vanessa Bright is a British-Mauritian independent soul singer/songwriter and part music producer with a penchant for writing infectious music and relatable narratives. She is a Miss/Mrs Africa UK finalist and winner of Miss Charity representing Mauritius, with the intention to inspire and empower females, to build confidence within themselves.
Her upcoming track "Harmonie" which features Francesco Mendolia of jazz-funk band Incognito, will be a celebration of Bright's ancestral roots from the island of Mauritius. A richly diverse, colourful nation, built on slavery.
Even though Bright only started out her journey as an artist not too long ago, the multi-talented individual has already managed to amass a loyal following. She has worked with jazz funk legend Tom Browne on their soulful smooth track "Keep Your Spirits High" as well as Shakatak's Jill Saward requesting to add vocals to her existing track "Movin' On".
In receipt of Bright's "Movin' On" album, Morris Pleasure (of Earth, Wind and Fire) positioned her CD copy on the top of his piano at the notorious 606 club, London, UK as one to watch out for. As a writer and public speaker in her spare time, she has contributed in discussions with well-known celebrity host Esther Austin and Susaye Greene, former member of The Supremes and Valerie Holiday from The Three Degrees, to speak about authenticity, self-love and self-empowerment.
She also sparked the interest of RNB star Ne-yo, when he selected her track "Get Gone for his "Stay Lit" mixtape and Mutya Buena from the Sugababes endorsed her track "Keep Your Spirits High".
Growing up with music all around her, the artist didn’t embark on her music journey till later on in life because of the strict academic expectations of her father. Working in Information technology for a while, Bright eventually could not contain her burning passion for music which compelled her to write her first soul album “Movin’ On”
When Bright dove headfirst into music and discovered how music can help her connect with people, everything changed as she finally embarked on her career as a performer with an air of grace, subtlety and integrity. Being an avid storyteller, Bright is greatly influenced by real life, drawing inspiration for her music from personal experiences and hardships and vicariously.
Bright also seems to have a unique innate competency to ingeniously present music in multiple styles, all while maintaining a consistent brand, one of the factors that make this artist one to keep an eye out for.
Her first ever album "Under Water" leans towards a soulful downtempo style and is an instrumental album created for Bright to evolve within music production. Each track on the album dives into the troubled aspects of Bright's traumatic childhood, bringing them to the surface to process and heal. Her aim is to eventually publish animated videos in order to bring each piece of the track/story to life.
Her latest EP "Heartbreak" is designed to help those who have lost someone and process grief, which can appear as emotional heaviness, in waves.
A big advocate of authenticity, Bright hopes to reach out to people from all walks of life with her voice. With plans to release even more original material in the near future, she hopes to engage current audiences and reach out to new ones with her exciting yet profound creations.
As the founder of the new genre "free soul" which allows the progressive artist to freely experiment with any sound that is soulful, Vanessa Bright seeks to positively influence the world and connect with like-minded individuals through her music. She is no doubt, well on her way to becoming one of the most phenomenal artists in this generation.
